“One of the hardest things to do for us when my father died, was try to capture a snapshot of his life to share with others at his funeral. It had me swearing at myself for not doing this better, sooner.

In fact, it had me cursing the fact that I hadn’t recorded any of his stories at all. Not one.

Mostly, i really regret not catching both he and my mother, sharing their story. That story was - told by them - an amazing one and one I wish I’d recorded every single time they shared it with others, as something new would come out at every telling.

If you’re in a place where this is something you're able to get in front of, then find those around you who can help. Your loved one’s stories matter.

Why not go see if Amanda at SoFro Media is doing can help you some. It can’t help to suss it out.”

“I was keen to record my story as I would like my children to know about the country of their birth and also how we learned to adjust to the Australian way of life.

The advantage of having your story recroded rather than writing it is that your facial expressions and voice reflect your emotions when you are recalling happy or sad times and this makes it so much more personal. I am really pleased with the final product.”

“I always loved listening to my grandmother's stories from when she was young. The life back then was so different from our life now that it was hard to even imagine. My family always wished to record her stories somehow but writing a book was way out of our capabilities. That's why I jumped at the opportunity to record my and my family's story with Amanda. I was surprized how much i still remembered! And i am happy that my nephews and nieces can get to know a little bit of their great grandmother through the stories we have recorded. This is so much better than a book. It's priceless! Thank you Amanda.” 🙂

“The podcast experience has taught me how important it is to not only remember and share memories with loved ones, but to actually have those memories recorded. So that my children will always be able to hear my stories, their heritage, for years to come when I possibly may not be able to share them” ❤️

“Time travelling back to 1982 with you was magical for me.✨

There is such great joy and beauty in sharing our own  little and big stories💛

Everyone should do this!”Deb

“It took me a while really thinking about a time so long ago that I thought I had forgotten. In my experience doing the podcast, I realised significant things that happened in my life back then that have shaped who I am today.”

“You only ever hear about the Partition on the ‘big scale’. Millions of people crossing borders. You never really hear about individuals or the families. So for the grandad that I knew to take the risk to give them shelter was actually quite surprising. Mum had never told me that story before. It only came up 60yrs after the event.

The video was a good exercise because you learn a new perspective about things you already know (or think you know). Just an extra layer of their life story. ”
